Many families in large cities share the same problem. The apartment has one room too few, but moving is too expensive. If monument protection also prevents larger solutions, pragmatic solutions have to be found. The kitchen is the center of life for almost all families. This is where we eat and drink, laugh and cry, celebrate and argue. If this room functions well, the basis for good coexistence has been laid. This aspect is particularly important if a separate living room is not possible due to the number of rooms. Special attention was also paid to this room in

apartment F

. Due to the impossibility of making major structural changes in the listed building, almost everything was optimized within the parameters. The bathroom was also adapted to the family circumstances. To ensure that all the children still have a bedroom, the largest room is now the parents' bedroom and living room at the same time.

The new kitchen

serves as the centerpiece of the apartment. The only structural changes that were feasible involved removing the remnants of an old partition wall, enabling the installation of the new kitchen in its current configuration. Every corner and the entire height were utilized to optimize storage space. The pantry unit wrapped around the corner utilizes the existing offset and creates a clean line.

The kitchen island,

with direct access to the balcony and an integrated hob, serves as the new centerpiece. Accessible from both sides, it also provides ample storage space and divides the room into cooking and dining areas.

The herringbone parquet

made of pine was discovered under many layers of other floors. In places where there used to be walls or the wood-burning stove, this was supplemented with new material, which now shows up beautifully on the floor. Otherwise, it was sufficient to sand down the parquet and treat it with hard oil.

The outer walls of the kitchen were equipped with a new

wall heating system,

eliminating the need for a radiator and creating additional space.

The kitchen was
re-plastered with

clay plaster,

which efficiently transfers heat from the wall heating system while also moderating room humidity and eliminating odors. The silky sheen is a testament to the craftsmanship and the use of ready-mixed clay finishing plaster.

Instead of using apples and pears,

oiled oak was paired with green granite

for the built-in furniture.

The oak fronts were designed with

recessed grip rails,

which are neatly crafted and create a consistent aesthetic across all the built-in furniture.

The interior of the kitchen

is constructed from solid wood. Internal drawers provide maximum flexibility and efficiently utilize the base units. Additionally, small yet subtle details such as the integrated sockets enhance the overall design.

The shower room

was redesigned with a built-in oak and granite washbasin in the style of the kitchen.

Rather than a conventional wall, a

bathroom unit

now separates the shower from the rest of the room, maximizing every centimeter of space. Additionally, this setup allows for comfortable showering and teeth brushing simultaneously.

The boiler and washing machine also had to find a place in the bathroom. These were positioned one above the other.

at every point!
