Not much remained of the charm these spaces probably once had. The rooms in the production unit of the former shoe manufacturers, “Andreas Neider,” in Vienna’s 7th district, were probably always pretty simple, even back in the day. In the “Apartments SG” nothing original was left, except for the bare concrete structure. To address this situation and the resulting longstanding vacancy, the rooms have now been given

a new lease of life,

complete with up-to-date and efficient heating systems and services.

A previous attempt at interior remodeling had been abandoned before IFUB* was entrusted with the task.

The two apartments were each designed to house a spacious

central living space

with direct access to a terrace. Apartments with outdoor space are a rare and sought-after commodity in Vienna, which is why the apartments were specifically designed to include generously proportioned terraces.

High-quality, solid-oak

herringbone parquet

was laid in all rooms except the bathrooms. The steps out to the terrace were designed to match.

The bathrooms

feature handmade English tiles and traditional Moroccan plaster (Tadelakt). High-quality fittings in black add contrast.

Tadelakt

provides a wonderful surface for wet rooms. The silky lime plaster is applied in several steps – it is rubbed and waxed until it is waterproof and takes on a pleasant tactile quality.

The special thing about the blue tiles is that each one is

unique

due to the way they are produced. This creates lively surfaces that nevertheless appear homogenous and calm.

Sleek

visualizations

of the interior were drawn up to assist the sale of the properties. Here: the view from the living room into the kitchen.

How the new owners come to furnish their apartments will probably remain a mystery. We can get an idea of how they could look from a proposed

furnishing scheme:
