An additional residential building was constructed in the outskirts of Berlin on a spacious wooded plot near a lake, which previously only housed a vacation home. Together with a small city apartment, it serves as an equal primary residence for the owners. The house is a place for work, relaxation, partying, meeting and hosting friends and, above all, lots of good food. The

connection to the garden and nature

played a key role in this project. This ecological new build blends into the architectural character of the "existing village" with its roof shape and integrates harmoniously into the pine forest with its cladding made from local larch wood.

The shape of the house was used as a theme for the rest of the design. As

section

of the building volume, the terrace plays a key role in both the use and appearance of the building. As an extended living/dining room, it is one of the main lounges. Thanks to the good weather protection, it can also be furnished in this way.

This small house was originally used as a weekend home. This is still in use. There are also various sheds and a sauna with gabled roofs on the spacious plot with mature trees. The ensemble almost looks like a

small village.

The clients love

light installations.

This can be seen not only inside, but also on the terrace.

The building is constructed as an ecological

timber construction

in timber frame construction, the load-bearing timber construction of the ceilings remains visible in the interior. The house meets the KfW 55 standard.

¯I Living/Dining Room

The

open floor plan

on the first floor creates generous space for cooking, eating together and relaxed gatherings. A sitting window with a view of the garden becomes a retreat and invites you to linger.

Mirrors

are also a consistent design element. Here, they multiply the terrazzo floor into an endless puzzle and make the seating area in front of the window appear to float.

The

terrazzo tiles

of the floor in the large living/dining room have a uniform grain. The background colors of the tiles, on the other hand, vary depending on the use of the room: green tones dominate in the kitchen. These gradually change to a warm beige towards the living room.

The

stairs

are designed as integrated built-in furniture: they conceal a flexible storage space, accessible as a storage niche or via drawers. Mirrored, spiral steps visually break up the space and open up ever new views of the garden.

The hallway on the upper floor is much more than just a circulation zone - it becomes a play - and retreat space with a

View into the treetops.

A custom-built seating staircase spans across the section of the house, inviting people to linger. The surrounding stair railing, crafted by a carpenter, not only provides safety but also integrates valuable storage space.

In contrast to the soft, restrained colors of the other rooms, the bathroom stands out with its eye-catching design. Family and friends bathe here with

a view of the forest.
